Surprising Reasons to Choose Used Auto Parts Versus New

Automotive Blog

Most car owners choose used parts when it's time to make repairs or replacements just to save money. This is certainly reason enough to buy used parts as repairs can be expensive enough on their own, but there are many other reasons to choose used or remanufactured parts when your car needs repairs. Note a few of those reasons here and you may be convinced that used parts are always the right choice.

1. It's good for the environment

When you think about recycling materials to keep them out of landfills and to cut down on the need for new materials to be harvested, you may be thinking only of materials you use around your home. However, car parts often get tossed in landfills just as much as anything else you might throw away at home. These can be very damaging to the soil and groundwater, as materials like rubber and plastic take years to break down and often release harmful chemicals as they do. Car parts also typically contain different types of fluids that also seep into the ground when they're thrown away.

Recycling auto parts also means less virgin material is needed to be harvested; new plastics won't need to be created and fabricated and less new iron ore needs to be collected and smelted to create steel. The more used auto parts that are recycled and resold, the better it is for the environment overall.

2. You create local jobs and competition

Finding used car parts that can be remanufactured or recycled is a very labor-intensive industry. Salvage yards and stores need to work with wreckers who pick up used cars and then they need to break down those cars and pull off any parts that can be salvaged. Steel and other metals are then often recycled and fabricated for new use. All of these jobs are those that need to be done locally and which cannot be given to a computer. This means that when you sell your own car to a wrecker or shop a salvage yard or store that sells used auto parts, you are actually creating local jobs.

This also forces stores that sell new auto parts to keep their own prices low, as they need to compete with salvage yards and those that sell used parts. If no one bought used auto parts however, those jobs wouldn't be created and stores would have no reason to maintain affordable pricing. This too is another reason to consider buying used parts, through a place like Queanbeyan Auto Dismantlers, as often as possible.

Keeping Your Auto Safe and Secure

Hey! My name is Damian and this blog contains some very important information about caring for and protecting your auto. I am not an automotive expert but I do have some experiences which have taught me some important lessons. When I bought a new car a couple of years ago, I was so happy. However, that happiness turned to anger when someone broke into my car. They didn't manage to drive it away but I was super mad. My friend who works in an auto shop recommended that I buy some accessories to improve the security of my car. He also gave me some great tips on how I could keep my car secure.
